LUSAKA Mayor Chitambala Mwewa says the city is using local tourism to promote inclusive economic growth.
Speaking at the Global City Tourism Summit 2026 Mayors’ Roundtable in Busan, South Korea, Mr Mwewa said Lusaka, with a population of approximately 3.1 million, offers a rich mix of culture, heritage, local cuisine, commerce and community experiences.
He thanked the City of Busan for its hospitality and praised its transformation from a port city into a global centre for tourism, culture and innovation.
Mr Mwewa said this year’s summit theme, “Local Tourism: Connecting Urban Economies and Tourism Innovation,” aligns with Lusaka’s vision of using tourism to drive inclusive economic growth.
He said the city was linking its tourist attractions with local markets, restaurants, accommodation providers, creative industries and transport services to expand economic opportunities.
Mr Mwewa cited Kabwata Cultural Village, local markets, city food tours and township arts as some of the attractions that could help promote Lusaka’s tourism potential.
He also pointed to investments in waste management and green spaces under the Keep Lusaka Clean, Green and Healthy Campaign as part of efforts to improve the city’s environment.
