LEFT TO SLEEP IN CELLS: ALICK BANDA ABANDONED BY HIS OWN POLITICAL PRAISE SINGERS – BAILED OUT BY THE SAME SDA HE INSULTS DAILY.

It was the most embarrassing moment for Archbishop Alick Banda and it exposed everything Zambians needed to know about the fake loyalty surrounding him.

When the Bishop needed sureties the most, all the big names, the politicians who surround him every day, who whisper in his ears to wage war against the UPND administration and the SDA Church, disappeared. They vanished.

These are the same people who use the Bishop’s pulpit for political mileage. Every day they push him to attack government, to attack the SDA congregation, to turn the Church into an Opposition Forum branch. But when the time came to do the practical work – to walk to the police station and sign as surety for a simple bailable case – none of them was there.

Even Fred M’membe, who escorted him on the day of his detention and was quick to pose for cameras, could not offer himself as surety to prevent the Bishop from sleeping in police custody. All they could do was run to Facebook and issue long statements condemning the detention. Facebook posts cannot bail a person out. Surety does.

In the end, who saved the Archbishop from spending more nights in cells? Three ordinary teachers, among them a member of the SDA Church – the same Christian congregation that he and his political allies in the Opposition have been insulting day in and day out. The very SDA members he has demeaned from the pulpit are the ones who showed Christian love and offered themselves for his partial freedom.

This is a clear sign that those who claim to be loyal around Alick Banda are not genuine. They are not loyal to him, they are loyal to his position as Bishop because they want to ride on it for political mileage. They want his collar to sanctify their politics.
