Former Cabinet Minister, Katele Kalumba, has appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for mention in a case in which he is charged with seditious practices.
The 74-year-old former minister appeared before Magistrate Webster Milumbe, accompanied by his wife and close friends.
Dr Kalumba is charged with seditious practices, contrary to Sections 57(1)(h) and 60(1)(c) of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence allege that between August 1 and 13, 2026, Dr Kalumba published seditious statements on his Facebook page, accusing President Hakainde Hichilema of being responsible for alleged abductions, deaths and strangulations.
He is also alleged to have warned of public resistance if the August 13 general election was rigged.
During the previous court session, the court entered a plea of not guilty after determining that Dr Kalumba’s response during plea-taking did not amount to an unequivocal admission of guilt.
The court subsequently granted him bail in the sum of K100,000, with two Lusaka-based sureties.
The matter has been adjourned to November 10, 2026, for continuation of trial.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Milumbe has extended Dr Kalumba’s bail pending the continuation of the trial.
