Lusaka City Council says works on the 7.2-kilometre Kalusha Bwalya drainage project is nearing completion as part of efforts to improve stormwater management and prevent flooding in the flood-prone areas.
The project is among several drainage clearing activities being undertaken by the council across the city to ensure that drainages are free from blockages and can effectively channel storm water.
LCC Public Relations Officer, Chola Mwamba, said in an interview with ZANIS today, that the council has successfully completed the excavation and lining of the drainage bed along the entire 7.2-kilometre stretch.
She said that the remaining works involve the construction of concrete walls, of which 1.4 kilometers have already been completed.
Ms Mwamba therefore added that the council remains committed to ensuring that the project is fully completed to improve drainage and reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
