Kabwe teen who murdered two women did it to get rich!

POLICE in Kabwe, Central Province, have established the reason behind the gruesome murder of two women, Gladness Nambuka, 20, and Patience Cheelo, 26.

On August 8, 2026, Gladness and Patience were allegedly murdered and their bodies dumped in a water well at their home in Luangwa Extension.

Following the incident, Police recovered Gladness’ mobile phone from a Kwame Nkrumah University student who led them to the person from whom he had bought it, a trail that led to the apprehension of the 17-year-old murder suspect.

Central Province Police Commanding Officer Lemekani Chirwa tells Journalist Joseph Siambihi that, during interrogations, the suspect allegedly narrated that in March this year, he came across a social media post by a traditional doctor advertising services in Kasumbalesa, promising to help people get rich.

In July 2026, the suspect reportedly travelled to Kasumbalesa in the company of his uncle, Charles Cheelo Jr, where he met a traditional doctor only identified as Phiri.

Phiri reportedly gave them a charm in a box and advised them to take it home, with instructions to position it at the house the suspect and victims lived.

They were told that whoever touched the box first would be the first person to be sacrificed.

Patience Cheelo is said to have touched the box first and was therefore identified as the first person to be sacrificed.

When everyone was at church, the suspect allegedly entered the house and found Gladness Nambuka in the living room.

Armed with a knife he had picked from the kitchen, he stabbed her in the stomach, allegedly to prevent her from becoming a witness to what he was about to do.

He then went to Patience Cheelo’s bedroom, where he allegedly overpowered her and stabbed her three times.

The two women died, and the suspect allegedly undressed them to collect blood for use with the charms, following instructions from the traditional doctor.

After collecting the blood, he dumped the two bodies in a water well.

According to Chirwa, the suspect was instructed to draw water from the well after dumping the bodies into it.

He was further advised to mix the water drawn from the well with the blood he had extracted from the victims.

The suspect who remains in Police custody is now expected to appear in Court on two counts of murder.
