Kabwe Mayor, Gary Domingo, has called for enhanced collaboration among stakeholders in waste management.

Mr Domingo says maintaining a clean environment is a collective responsibility requiring commitment from the local authority, the private sector and residents to promote a clean and healthy environment conducive to economic growth and development in the district.

Speaking during a familiarisation tour of NATSAVE Bank’s Kabwe Branch, Mr Domingo said the Council is ready to partner with other stakeholders such as NATSAVE to address waste management challenges and improve the cleanliness of the district.

“The local authority remains committed to clearing accumulated waste and, companies and other organisations should support its efforts through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives,” he said.

He appealed to corporate entities to support the Council’s campaign to create a clean and green Central Business District through donations of waste bins and other essential waste management equipment.

Mr Domingo disclosed that Kabwe District has an estimated 4,000 metric tonnes of uncollected waste, highlighting the need for concerted efforts to address the challenge.

He said partnerships with the private sector would contribute significantly to the Council’s vision of making Kabwe a cleaner and healthier town while improving the well-being of residents and creating an environment that attracts economic opportunities.

Meanwhile, NATSAVE Kabwe Branch acting Manager, Winnie Zulu, said the Mayor’s visit has provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of stakeholder collaboration in addressing waste management challenges.

Ms Zulu welcomed the call for collective action and assured the Mayor that his appeal for CSR support would be communicated to the bank’s headquarters in Lusaka for consideration.
