PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema on Thursday paid a courtesy call on Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya Mukamambo II of the Soli people at her palace in Chongwe District.

The President said although the traditional leader had requested to see him, he felt it was only right that he visits her.

Senior Chieftainess Nkomeshya, who previously served as a member of the Central Committee of UNIP and as Member of Parliament for Chongwe, is a long-standing advocate for development.

During the meeting, she raised concerns affecting her chiefdom, including boundary disputes dating back to the 1958 demarcation, the chiefdom falling under more than one local council, and challenges traditional leaders face in attending council meetings following the 2025 constitutional amendment.

President Hichilema said government has committed to resolving the boundary question, which he noted affects many other chiefdoms across the country.

He also directed that where a chiefdom straddles several districts, traditional leaders should nominate proxies to attend council meetings on their behalf.

The President said the decision to bring traditional leaders back into councils was aimed at ensuring they contribute directly to development in their areas.

He thanked the Senior Chieftainess for her best wishes and prayers and wished her continued good health.
