PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is grateful to God for giving him a privilege to serve Zambians, with a call on public servants to place service to the nation above personal interests.
Mr Hichilema wants everyone serving in his administration to do so with humility and love for the people of Zambia.
The President said this in a message posted on his Facebook page.
“Heavenly Father, thank You for Zambia and the privilege of serving her people. “Guide each one of us to serve with humility, gratitude and love,” he said.
And as the country commemorates Independence Day next week, the head of State wants Zambians to cherish the historic peace prevailing in the country.
“May we cherish our peace and remember with gratitude the quiet sacrifices that sustain it. May we all place service to our country and her interests above our own,” Mr Hichilema said.
The call for peace was also echoed by the President when he addressed the 14th National Assembly on Friday, when he reiterated Government’s resolve to promote harmony.
“We will continue to protect our democracy, uphold the rule of law, and safeguard the peace and stability that Zambia has worked so hard to preserve.
“This is necessary for Zambia to prosper. We must never take our peace for granted and no lawlessness shall be tolerated, regardless of political or other affiliation,” Mr Hichilema said.
The President said Zambians need to sustain peace as a cornerstone for sustained economic growth as his administration implements the Grow Zambia Agenda.
“We want a peaceful and stable Zambia that can attract local and foreign investment, create jobs, grow its economy and secure a better future for all,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said since assuming office in 2021, the New Dawn administration has worked to restore confidence in the democratic institutions and strengthen respect for the rule of law.
Meanwhile, President Hichilema has called on traditional leaders across the country to take a leading role in supporting the Grow Zambia Agenda.
Mr Hichilema said that all components of the growth agenda are found in the chiefdoms.
The President said this in a speech read for him by Southern Province Acting Permanent Secretary Gift Monde during the Chuungu traditional ceremony in Chief Chikanta’s area in Kalomo.
The traditional ceremony is a thanksgiving event where subjects gather to celebrate the crop yields of the previous farming season and to prepare for the next agro season.
“As the Government pursues the Grow Zambia Agenda, we call upon all citizens, traditional leaders, farmers, young people, businesses and other stakeholders to play their part in building a more productive and prosperous Zambia,” Mr Hichilema said. https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
