Government has reaffirmed its commitment to attain an annual production target of 3 million tonnes of copper in pursuit of the Grow Zambia Agenda 2031.
Minister of Finance and National Planning, Situmbeko Musokotwane, described the Mingomba Mine to be the biggest copper mine in Zambia once fully operational.
Speaking when he received a delegation from the United States-based Kobold Metals Global, led by its President, Josh Goldman.
Dr Musokotwane said the government is committed to addressing all outstanding issues to ensure the project moves forward without delay.
“Mingomba is a transformational project for Zambia. It aligns perfectly with our agenda to grow the economy and achieve 3 million tonnes of copper production. We are committed to resolving all matters that need to be attended to so that we can accelerate progress,” Dr Musokotwane said.
And Dr Goldman said Kobold is eager to work closely with the government to fast-track development of the mine.
“We have discussed how best we can work together and move faster in Zambia. We believe that if the government, Kobold Global and other stakeholders move together, we can solve problems along the way,” Dr Goldman said.
He added that the project will not only create more jobs for Zambians but will also lead to more mineral discoveries through advanced exploration technology.
Dr Goldman further emphasized the importance of transparency in how the government and Kobold Global work together to hasten the process.
“We are committed to transparency and to building a partnership that creates jobs, unlocks more discoveries, and delivers long-term value for the people of Zambia,” he said.
