The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has ordered that Binwell Mpundu’s surety former Chilubi Member of Parliament, Mulenga Fube, pays a sum of K100, 000 bond amount or serve a prison sentence of six months for the non-appearance of former Nkana Member of Parliament before court.
Mr Fube, a surety in a case in which Mr Mpundu is facing one count of seditious practices, is expected to account for the accused person’s failure to appear before court.
The media reports that In October last month, Principal Magistrate, Webster Milumbe, issued a bench warrant against Mr Mpundu for the second time after he failed to appear in court.
The court also directed Mr Fube and former Kamfinsa Member of Parliament, Christopher Kang’ombe, to show cause as to why the accused person had failed to attend court.
Magistrate Milumbe subsequently adjourned the matter to today, November 3, 2026, and ordered that Mr Fube be brought before the court.
The matter was therefore before court for Mr Fube, a surety to give account of the whereabouts of Mr Mpundu, to which he indicated that Mr Mpundu did not reveal his location to him.
The Court told Mr Fube that in an event that he decides to pay, he should pay as and when he has the money so that he can be discharged as a surety.
Mr Milumbe has since ordered that Christopher Kang’ombe has up to November 23, 2026 to appear before court and explain Mr Mpundu’s whereabouts.
Mr Mpundu’s charge stems from a Facebook post allegedly published on December 20, 2024, in which he is accused of urging members of the public and politicians to acquire firearms for self-defense.
