FOOTBALL analyst Moses Mpundu has called for the inclusion of more former players on the Chipolopolo technical bench, saying their experience could play an important role in rebuilding and sustaining the national team.
Currently, Kennedy Mweene is the goalkeeper coach and has been hauled for helping Willard Mwanza to tick in the previous game against Togo.
Speaking in an interview with the Zambian Business Times (ZBT), Mpundu said the involvement of former players could help strengthen the team by bringing their experience and understanding of Zambian football into the technical setup.
“Inclusion of the former players is of great importance, for the sake of sustaining the team,” Mpundu said.
He said the recent performance of the Chipolopolo demonstrated the potential impact that greater involvement of former players could have on the national team.
Mpundu further called for the appointment of a local coach on a permanent basis, arguing that such a move would create greater opportunities for former players to be incorporated into the technical structure.
He said a locally led technical setup could also provide continuity and contribute to the longterm development of the national team. Other players that are part of the technical bench include 2012 AFCON winner Joseph Musonda as physical trainer and former Chipolopolo and Bundesliga player Andrew Sinkala as an assistant coach.
