LUSAKA Mayor, His Worship, Mr. Chitambala Mwewa, has been sworn in this morning, with his installation scheduled for this afternoon.

Mr. Mwewa took his oath of office before the Chief Resident Magistrate, Hon. Nthandose S. Chabala.

Speaking at the ceremony, Lusaka Town Clerk, Mr. Oliver Muuka, said the swearing-in was not merely symbolic but a legal requirement pursuant to the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 as read with Article 260 of the Constitution of Zambia Act No. 2 of 2016.

Mr. Muuka stated that according to this law, “a person assuming a public office shall take an oath of office and such other oath as prescribed before carrying out the duties of the office.”

He said the oath is a pledge to promote effective service delivery, safeguard confidentiality and act always in the best interests of the community.

He added that it is a reminder that leadership is a trust and that the confidence placed in the elected official must be honoured through discipline, transparency and accountability.

He advised the Mayor that the oath he has taken is a reminder that service to the people of Lusaka requires unity, transparency and dedication, and urged all to build a city that reflects the aspirations of its residents.
