A 12-year-old boy from Luangwa Township in Kitwe has survived a crocodile attack after his friend intervened during the encounter in the Kafue River

Gibson Zimba was swimming with his friend, Paul Molisho, when the crocodile attacked him. Paul jumped into the river and grabbed the reptile by its tail in an attempt to rescue Gibson.

Chamboli Level One Hospital Consultant General Surgeon, Dr Kelly Makonko, said Gibson lost two fingers and suffered deep bite wounds.

Dr Makonko said the boy had undergone surgery and was in a stable condition.

Speaking to ZNBC News, Paul said he could not abandon his friend, even if saving him meant risking his own life.
