Police have arrested 11 people for allegedly unlawfully assembling at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka following misleading information circulating on social media that money would be distributed to members of the public.

Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi says police received a report around 07:30 hours today that a large crowd had gathered at Gate One of the stadium.

Mr Chilabi explains that preliminary investigations indicate that the gathering was prompted by a deceptive social media post by an online commentator encouraging members of the public to go to the stadium on the claim that money would be distributed.

He says some individuals failed to comply with police instructions during engagements with the crowd, leading to their apprehension.

Mr Chilabi has stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing, with further updates to be provided as necessary.
