Government says traditional ceremonies such as Mutuna Mpanga are vital platforms for honouring the country’s heritage, strengthening social bonds and passing cultural knowledge to younger generations.

‎

‎Speaking when she represented President Hakainde Hichilema as guest of honour at the Mutuna Mpanga Traditional Ceremony of His Royal Highness Chief Chisunka in Mansa District, Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Prudence Chinama says Government remains committed to working closely with traditional leaders and communities to preserve cultural heritage and improve living standards of communities.

‎

‎She said the government will continue to work with traditional leadership to foster development and encourage communities, especially young people, to position themselves for emerging economic opportunities through skills development, entrepreneurship and participation in local supply chains.

‎

‎Ms Chinama also called for continued collaboration among government, traditional leaders, local authorities, communities, the private sector and other stakeholders to promote development in chiefdoms and districts.

‎

‎The Luapula PS took time to congratulate Chief Chisunka and the organising committee for successfully hosting the ceremony, and thanked visiting royal highnesses, government officials, traditional leaders, cooperating partners, the clergy, and all visitors for their attendance.

‎

And ‎in a speech read on his behalf, Chief Chisunka, said culture must play a vital role in the fight against poverty, and urged the Ushi people to harness their reputation as diligent workers, farmers and skilled fishermen to generate income and support families.

‎

‎He acknowledged government support through FISP, CDF, social protection and free education, appealed for a boarding school and bridges, pledged support for the Grow Zambia Agenda through partnerships with government, investors and cooperatives, and declared the granary open under the theme of unity and harvest.

‎

‎Meanwhile, during a courtesy call on the chief at his palace, the Luapula Province Permanent Secretary and Chief Chisunka reaffirmed their commitment to working together for development in the area and beyond.

‎

‎Ms Chinama said President Hichilema does not discriminate against citizens or development on regional grounds, as demonstrated by the equal disbursement of the Constituency Development Fund to various regions.

‎

‎She explained that aligning with the rural Zambia growth agenda, a K5 million has been allocated towards its attainment.

‎Ms Chinama added that traditional ceremonies such as Mutuna Mpanga are examples of tourism promotion calendar activities which have the support of the government.

‎

‎In response, Chief Chisunka expressed gratitude to the government for being a partner in the promotion of tourism through cultural events such as traditional ceremonies.

‎

‎The chief said the “One Zambia, One Nation” motto is a key unifying symbol that ought to be embraced to foster peace, which is pivotal to development.

‎

‎He further emphasised that culture is a vehicle for tourism promotion.
