Rural News 1 min.Read FODEP calls for intensified voter education in Mbala By Kevin Kabwe October 7, 2026 FacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsAppThe Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) in Mbala District has called on voter education facilitators to intensify the voter education activities ahead of the forthcoming Mayoral by-election.
Foundation for Democratic Process Mbala District Chairperson, Bright Sikanyika says it is important that voter education is intensified given the low voter turnout that was recorded during the just-ended general elections in the district.
He has expressed concern that voter apathy may worsen during the by-election if voter education facilitators do not adequately engage the electorate and provide timely information.
He has described voter education facilitators as frontline workers in the electoral process and should ensure that they effectively discharge their duties.
Mr Sikanyika advised that the voter education campaign should focus on the importance of voting as a right of every eligible citizen, while also encouraging voters to correctly mark their ballots to minimise the number of rejected votes.
“Voter education facilitators should reach as many eligible voters as possible and ensure that the electorate is well informed,”
“The just ended general election was characterised by voter apathy, we need to avoid that now and Voter Education facilitators are key as they are frontline people to ensure every voter votes in the by election,” he added.
Meanwhile, a check by the media this morning at the Civic Centre in Mbala found that the deployment of voter education facilitators was underway.
