Green Eagles, led by Coach Perry Mutapa, were the best performers on the opening weekend of the 2026 Transitional Super Division season after posting a huge win away at Mighty Mufulira Wanderers.

Eagles recorded the highest score-line of the ten Week One matches, thumping Wanderers 4-1 at Shinde Stadium in Kantanshi, Mufulira.

The victory sees Eagles take command of Stream B after Red Arrows beat Mutondo Stars 3-1 away in Kitwe to secure second place.

Green Buffaloes and newly promoted Stylish Roan United were the other teams that posted wins on Matchday One.

In the same stream, ZESCO United and Kabwe Warriors have a point each following their 1-1 stalemate in Kabwe.

Nkwazi, Mutondo Stars, Chirundu FC and Wanderers have no points after losing their fixtures.

Reacting to the win, Eagles coach Perry Mutapa demanded more from his players despite the fantastic start.

“I think it was a good fight from the boys. We fought from the first whistle to the last. In the first half we could have scored more goals but it wasn’t to be,” Mutapa said.

“In the second half, I think they were good. Congratulations to the boys. It feels nice to score four goals. It is good that our pre-season training has worked. We could have scored more goals,” he added.

Looking ahead, Eagles face ZESCO United away in Ndola.

“Tough match against ZESCO United. It is not going to be easy, especially that we will be away. We have to improve, especially on scoring. Yes we celebrate the win but this is just Week One,” Mutapa said.
