After three rounds of action in the transitional campaign for the MTN Super League, only two teams remain with a perfect record – Green Eagles and Nkana.
In Stream B, Green Eagles have opened a four-point lead at the top after maintaining their fine start to the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over promoted Roan United on Saturday.
Striker Chaniza Zulu was the hero for the Choma-based side, scoring the decisive goal late in the second half to overcome a stubborn Roan outfit.
Eagles coach Perry Mutapa has hailed his team’s mental strength and tactical discipline.
“Seeing what we practice in training replicated on the pitch shows the great mental strength of this team. The players’ mindset right now is excellent,” Mutapa said.
“We came into this game wanting all three points, and we achieved our goal. Credit also goes to the technical staff, our substitutions were purely tactical and paid off,” he added.
Eagles sit on nine points from three matches, while the battle behind them is tight. Green Buffaloes are second in Stream B with five points, followed by Red Arrows, Chirundu United, Kabwe Warriors and Roan United, who all have four points each.
Nkwazi, Zesco United and Mufulira Wanderers have two points each, while bottom-placed Mutondo Stars are yet to pick up a point.
In Stream A, leaders Nkana, who beat Nchanga Rangers 2-0 on Sunday, have a two-point lead over second-placed FC Muza. Third-placed Konkola Blades and fourth-positioned Power Dynamos are both sitting on six points each.
Zanaco are fifth on the table with four points alongside sixth-placed Kansanshi Dynamos.
Seventh-placed Napsa Stars have three points, followed by Makeni All Stars and Trident, who have a point each, while bottom side Nchanga Rangers also have no points.
With Nkana and Eagles setting the early pace, the transitional league is already showing signs of a two-horse race for early momentum, though the congested mid-table suggests the fight for Super League places will go down to the wire.
