Unknown people have stolen a 4 Inch water supply pipe belonging to Chambeshi Water Supply and Sanitation Company in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province.
The theft which happened at Ntindi Bridge in Nakonde has since caused a water disruption to Ntindi, Tazara and Riverside Township in Nakonde.
And Company Public Relations Officer, Tisa Banda has condemned the act of vandalism and theft of the water infrastructure.
Ms Banda said in a statement made available to ZANIS that the act undermines the company’s effort to supply water to its customers.
“The theft of critical water infrastructure is a serious offence that undermines efforts to provide reliable water supply and inconveniences communities that depend on these essential services,” she said.
She has, however, indicated that the company is taking the necessary steps to address the situation and restore normal water supply to the affected areas as soon as possible.
Ms Banda has since called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book.
“We wish to remind members of the public that vandalism and unauthorized interference with water infrastructure are offences under the Water Supply and Sanitation Act No. 28 of 1997. Such acts carry legal consequences and should not be tolerated,” Ms Banda said
She has also called on the public to help safeguard public water infrastructure and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities or the nearest Chambeshi water office.
Ms Banda has further appealed to customers to exercise patience and understanding as efforts to restore water supply continues.
