The two were apprehended at a boarding house in New Kasama, Lusaka, after being on the Drug Enforcement Commission’s watch list, DEC public relations officer Allan Tamba said.
“The commission is appealing to proprietors of boarding houses to take interest and report suspicious activities so that through collective action, we can prevent crime, create safer, healthier and functional communities for all,” Tamba said.
Meanwhile, 10 people have been arrested at the Summer Reggae and Afro Music Festival in Chongwe District in a separate intelligence-led operation.
The operation led to the seizure of 10.8 kilogrammes of cannabis, Tamba said. Those arrested include Francis Habeenzu, 27, Matildah Zulu, 22, and Hellen Banda, 26.
He said DEC is engaging organisers and hosts of the festival to prevent attendees from using the event for illegal activities.
“Those found wanting will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.
All suspects are in lawful custody awaiting court appearances.
“Unscrupulous persons involved in criminal syndicates are hereby warned that Zambia will neither serve as a transit corridor nor a destination hub for illicit drugs and controlled substances. The DEC remains fully alert to collaboratively intercept, arrest and prosecute offenders to the absolute limit of the law,” Tamba said.
