TONSE ALLIANCE ACCUSES UPND OF USING POLICE TO TARGET KELVIN KAUNDA

The Tonse Alliance has accused the UPND of allegedly using the police to target Lima Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda, whom it claims is being held because of political tensions surrounding the Mandevu constituency.

In a statement dated October 20, 2026, Tonse Alliance Deputy Spokesperson Anthony Chibuye has demanded the immediate release of Mr Kaunda, alleging that his detention is politically motivated.

Mr Chibuye has also accused some UPND cadres of attempting to link Mr Kaunda to matters involving Former Petauke Central MP, Emmanuel Jay Banda, including allegations that he was funding him.

He further questioned the circumstances surrounding an alleged attack on former Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila, drawing a connection between the incident and political tensions involving the Mandevu constituency.

The Tonse Alliance has urged the UPND to abandon what it describes as vindictive politics and instead focus on issue-based political competition.

Mr Chibuye says the people of Mandevu will ultimately decide their political future, while reiterating the alliance’s call for Mr Kaunda’s release.
