State ready for Archbishop Alick Banda trial set for November 3!
The State has confirmed its readiness to proceed with the trial of Lusaka Archbishop Dr. Alick Banda, scheduled to commence on November 3, 2026, in a case in which he is charged with possession of property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained
Appearing before Lusaka Senior Resident Magistrate Mwandu Nakazwe this morning, State Advocate Muyangwa Sitali informed the court that the prosecution was ready to proceed, a position also confirmed by the defence.
Dr. Banda is charged under Section 319 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, with allegedly possessing property reasonably suspected to have been unlawfully obtained.
Particulars of the offence allege that between April 22, 2021, and December 27, 2023, Dr Banda had in his possession a blue Toyota Hilux motor vehicle suspected to have been unlawfully obtained from the Zambia Revenue Authority-ZRA-.
The vehicle is reportedly linked to a wider investigation involving approximately 22 ZRA motor vehicles allegedly disposed of irregularly.
The Archbishop appeared before the court this morning accompanied by fellow Catholic clergy and members of the Catholic faithful.
