Sikhala Accuses Uebert Angel of Inciting Violence Over Chiwenga Death Prophecy

HARARE — Former opposition MP Job Sikhala has accused Spirit Embassy founder Uebert Angel of using his closeness to power to incite violence, after Angel allegedly threatened those prophesying the death of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

In a post on Sunday, Sikhala said ZANU PF figures had for decades mistaken the threat of violence for heroism.

“This homeboy of mine calling himself Ubert Angels recently prophesied about the death of General Chiwenga. No one threatened him with harm. Today he comes out threatening everyone with terror and violence if they prophesy the death of his favourites,” Sikhala wrote.

Sikhala argued that Angel himself had a history of death prophecies without being challenged to provide exact dates and times, citing what he described as prophecies about football legend Pele, socialite Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, and former Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika.

“Using closeness to power to incite violence against other people is the worst form of gospel I have ever come across. This is heresy,” he said.

He said religious leaders should preach peace and not violence, referencing the role of some churches in the Rwandan genocide and saying that was why Rwandan President Paul Kagame had banned some churches.

“Violence cannot be expected to be preached from the pulpit,” Sikhala said.

Angel has not responded publicly to Sikhala’s remarks at the time of publishing. The preacher has in recent weeks been linked on social media to a prophecy that Vice President Chiwenga would die in August 2026, a claim that triggered heated debate within ZANU PF circles.

Sikhala said threats from the pulpit undermined religious credibility and risked instability.
