Seven passengers and a minibus driver sustained injuries after a Toyota Hiace collided with pillars supporting the flyover bridge at Longacres Roundabout in Lusaka on Sunday afternoon, October 18, 2026.
According to a press statement issued by Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha, the accident occurred around 15:00 hours as the minibus, registration number BBD 2263, was travelling from north to south along Haile Selassie Road.
Police said the vehicle was being driven by 32-year-old Mails Jere of Mtendere Compound, who reportedly lost control due to excessive speed before colliding with the pillars of the roundabout flyover bridge.
The driver sustained a painful shoulder injury, while the minibus suffered damage to its front section, windscreen and front fenders.
Seven passengers were on board at the time of the accident. Among them was 48-year-old Evelyn Nsofwa of Kaunda Square Stage One, who sustained fractures to both legs and general body pains.

Nsofwa is currently admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), where she is receiving medical treatment.
The other six passengers sustained slight injuries and, together with the driver, were treated at UTH before being discharged.
Police have impounded the Toyota Hiace at Longacres Police Post pending re-examination by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).
The Zambia Police Service has urged motorists to observe prescribed speed limits and exercise caution on the roads to prevent accidents and protect the lives of all road users.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with excessive speed, particularly on busy roads where losing control of a vehicle can result in serious injuries to passengers and other road users.
