Rufunsa District Commissioner, (DC) Richard Mabena has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to supporting the school feeding programme in the area.
Speaking when he handed over 83 boxes of cooking oil to schools across the district, with each box containing four 5-litre containers. Mr Mabena said Government has provided cooking oil specifically to support the school feeding programme.
“We are grateful for the provision of the cooking oil by the Government to support the school feeding programme,” he said.
ZANIS reports that Mr Mabena said Government also provided 1,000 sachets of fresh milk to Early Childhood Education (ECE) learners last term.
Mr Mabena said the interventions demonstrated the Government’s commitment to improving the welfare and learning conditions of learners.
He further appealed to stakeholders to complement Government’s efforts in supporting the school feeding programme.
“Government cannot do everything alone and therefore, I appeal to organisations, companies, NGOs, churches, businesses and well-wishers to come on board and support our schools,” Mr Mabena said.
And Rufunsa District Education Board Secretary (DEBS), Damian Milimo has commended Government for its continued support towards the school feeding programme.
Mr Milimo said the provision of cooking oil was another demonstration of Government’s commitment to ensuring that learners were adequately supported.
“We understand that feeding our learners is an important part of improving education outcomes and we therefore, appreciate the efforts being made to ensure that schools receive the necessary support to implement this programme,” Mr Milimo said.
He urged head teachers and teachers to ensure that the feeding programme achieves its intended objectives.
Meanwhile, Mr Mabena has commended teachers in Rufunsa District for their role in conducting the August 13 general elections.
Mr Mabena said the teachers conducted themselves professionally, resulting in the elections being held in a free and transparent manner.
