THE Programme for Integrated Development and Adaptation to Climate Change (PIDACC) has received appreciation from beneficiaries in Nanyanga Ward of Siavonga District for its interventions aimed at strengthening agricultural productivity, improving nutrition and building resilience to climate change.
The programme is supporting communities with interventions designed to address challenges associated with erratic rainfall, land degradation and other climate-related threats affecting agricultural production and household livelihoods.
PIDACC Project Coordinator, Simunji Simunji said through the initiative, farmers are being equipped with knowledge and skills in sustainable agriculture, nutrition and livelihood improvement to enable them adapt to changing climatic conditions.
Dr Simunji disclosed that about 2000 farmers have so far received training under the programme, with the aim of strengthening household food security, promoting sustainable livelihoods and improving community resilience.
Meanwhile, Nanyanga Ward Councilor, Leonard Simwiinde, says the ward aspires to become a food basket and contribute to national food security in line with the broader Grow Zambia agenda.
And KABWE based Economist Noah Kabwita called for sensitisation of the Grow Zambia Agenda in order for the citizenry to understand the concept and have a buy-in.
Mr Kabwita observed that the Grow Zambia Agenda is President Hakainde Hichilema’s blueprint to accelerate development but people must understand it for them to contribute.
On September 1, 2026, President Hichilema during his inaugural speech unveiled the Grow Zambia Agenda in order to move the country from stabilization in his first term to development, jobs creation and poverty reduction.
“The agenda clearly states its targets and contribution towards the economy of the country. In Kabwe District, however, most residents seem unaware of it,” Mr Kabwita said.
He urged the government to involve local leaders and decentralize sensitizations so that the wider community will have an understanding of President Hichilema’s vision.
He observed that Kabwe District and Central Province in general have a key role to play in achieving the agenda because agriculture and livestock are already people’s livelihoods.
Mr Kabwita highlighted the need for people to own the vision for them to effectively participate and contribute to the agenda.
“The agenda is a visionary masterclass that must be supported. It is the fuel for development, jobs creation and poverty reduction and consequently improved living conditions among the people,” he observed.
