Orbis International in collaboration with the Zambia Ophthalmological Society (ZOS) has hosted the Women in Ophthalmology annual workshop to strengthen collaboration, mentorship and inclusive leadership in the eye health sector.

The workshop held in Lusaka today was under the theme “Stronger Together: Creating Collaborative and Inclusive Teams in Ophthalmology.”

The event, which precedes the 10th ZOS Annual Scientific Congress, provides a platform for women in ophthalmology to exchange experiences, build professional networks and explore ways of strengthening teamwork within the sector.

Orbis Country Director, Lucia Mvula, highlighted the importance of wellness, stating that it must begin with women who strive to serve others in order to deliver high quality patient care.

Ms Mvula emphasised on deliberate investment in the wellbeing of female health workers, as their health and motivation directly affect service delivery.

She noted that the meeting aims to promote peer support, mentorship and sponsorship among women professionals in ophthalmology and to foster career progression as well as professional fulfilment for women in the health sector.

Meanwhile, Renaissance Managing Consultant, Mutale Kabumbu, emphasised the importance of work-life balance in enhancing productivity and personal wellbeing.
