The Media Workers Association of Zambia (MWA-Z) has called on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Management to take concrete and timely action to address concerns raised by unionised employees over working conditions, staff welfare and job security.
In a press statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, MWA-Z acknowledged ZNBC Management’s response to concerns raised by the Zambia Union of Broadcasters and Other Information Disseminators (ZUBID) and the National Union of Communication Workers (NUCW).
The association welcomed Management’s stated commitment to dialogue with worker representatives and its indication that outstanding labour matters affecting media professionals at the national broadcaster would be reviewed.
However, MWA-Z stressed that expressing willingness to engage was not enough, urging the corporation to translate its commitments into practical measures to resolve the grievances raised by employees.
The association identified fair labour practices, improved staff welfare, job security and transparent consultation processes as key areas requiring attention.

It further called on ZNBC Management to ensure that consultations with the unions are conducted in accordance with Zambian labour law and the relevant collective bargaining agreements.
MWA-Z said it remained committed to protecting the rights, welfare and professional interests of media workers across the country, emphasising the importance of a safe and conducive working environment within the broadcasting sector.
The association also urged ZNBC Management to pursue constructive engagement with ZUBID and NUCW, noting that employee welfare must be upheld alongside the corporation’s public service broadcasting mandate.
MWA-Z Interim President Francis Chipalo said the association would continue to monitor the situation closely and expected practical steps to be taken without delay to address the concerns raised.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, professionalism and the protection of media workers’ rights, stating that resolving the issues would contribute to strengthening Zambia’s wider media sector.
MWA-Z’s statement follows ZNBC Management’s response to the unions’ concerns, in which the corporation said discussions on a new collective agreement remained ongoing and outlined institutional reforms intended to improve its long-term financial and operational sustainability.
