Macron Warns Rioters of Tough Punishment After Reports of Looting in France
French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a stern warning to demonstrators following reports that several people looted shops and stole bread on Saturday.
Macron stressed that France would not tolerate violence, theft or attacks on public institutions, promising exemplary sanctions against those arrested and convicted in connection with the incidents.
“Violence has no place in our Republic. Those who have vandalized property, attacked prefectures and businesses, and looted even our town halls will be prosecuted and punished,” Macron said.
He also called for national unity against those he accused of spreading chaos and attempting to undermine France’s institutions.
“We will stand united against those who sow chaos and seek only to bring down our institutions,” the French president added.
⚠️ Macron’s message comes amid concerns over public disorder and attacks on businesses and government buildings. However, the circumstances surrounding the reported looting, including the number of people involved and the scale of the damage, remain unclear from the information provided.
