LUSAKA City Council has completed the first phase of its Operation Clear Path campaign and is now moving to phase two, which will focus on decongesting the central business district (CBD) and relocating buses operating from undesignated locations.
Lusaka Mayor Chitambala Mwewa said the first phase, which cleared unauthorised trading and obstructions along major roads, received limited resistance from the public.
He said the council would now work with Road Transport and Safety Agency to relocate buses and address illegal car and cell phone trading along Katondo Street.
Mr Mwewa also warned wheelbarrow operators against operating outside designated markets, saying offenders would have their wheelbarrows impounded.
Meanwhile, Zambia Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said about 40 buses had been impounded for various offences since the operation began, while two people were arrested for disorderly conduct and will appear in court.
Mr Chilabi thanked residents for their co operation and urged continued support. https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
