THE Keeping Girls in School and Beyond Initiative (KGS) has held its 2026 Annual Academic Symposium in Zimba District in Southern Province, bringing together learners, government ministries, traditional leadership, the Church, Non-Governmental Organisations and other stakeholders.

‎The symposium, held at Zimba Secondary School, is aimed at promoting academic excellence among girls and encouraging them to remain in school and pursue further education.

Zimba District Commissioner, Robinson Mulamfu said the KGS programme is an important intervention in increasing adolescent girls’ access to secondary education and beyond.

‎Mr Mulamfu disclosed that the government, with support from the World Bank and cooperating partners through the Multi-Donor Trust Fund, is implementing the Girls’ Education and Women Empowerment and Livelihood for Human Capital Project (GEWEL II) in all ten provinces

“Since its inception, the programme has supported more than 225,000 vulnerable girls, with over 30,000 having completed secondary education. More than 3,000 of those who completed secondary school have also received tertiary education support scholarships,” he said.
