Three Members of Parliament in Chama district in Eastern Province have been sworn in as members of the Chama Town Council.
The three lawmakers are Yotam Mtayachalo of Chama Central, Benson Njovu of Chama North and Jerrix Nkhata of Chama South.
The trio took their oaths before Magistrate Safiya Mwanang’ombe at the Town Council Chambers in Chama district.
The MPs thanked residents from their respective constituencies for entrusting them with the responsibility of representing them in the National Assembly.
Mr Mtayachalo said his five-year term would focus on connecting households in the district to piped water and electricity, while improving infrastructure in the education and health sectors.
In a related development, Mr Nkhata said he would prioritise improving road connectivity in the constituency.
“The connectivity has been a long time concern among residents,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chama North MP, Benson Njovu, expressed optimism that the government would prioritise improving the Chama-Matumbo and Chama-Lundazi roads project.
Mr Njovu said Chama was among the country’s most remote and hard-to-reach districts.
“Completing the road infrastructure would ease transport challenges for people travelling to and from the district,” he said.
