BREAKING: Burkina Faso Suspends Beauty Pageants, Introduces Science Competition for Young Women

Burkina Faso, under President Ibrahim Traoré, has suspended beauty pageants nationwide and introduced a science competition to recognise and reward young women with outstanding scientific talent.

The initiative, known as HAKILI Mousso, brought together 84 young women who competed in mathematics, physics and chemistry.

Top performers received cash prizes, scholarships and other rewards to support their education.

Officials said the contests could return in a redesigned format that promotes Burkina Faso’s cultural values.

The science competition is part of efforts to encourage young women to pursue science and recognise their academic achievements.
