NICO Insurance Zambia Limited invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Assistant Underwriting Manager – SME/Retail Lines. The Role The successful candidate will assist in managing the SME/Retail Lines Unit in line with the Company’s strategy, policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for: • Supporting the planning and management of underwriting operations, including analysing market trends, business performance and claims experience.• Managing renewals and ensuring renewal notices and documentation are processed within the required timelines.• Reviewing and approving underwriting transactions within authorised limits and escalating matters where appropriate.• Conducting risk surveys and risk assessments for existing and prospective business.• Assessing new risks, determining appropriate terms and preparing quotations within authorised limits.• Monitoring premium bookings and supporting the achievement of underwriting targets.• Managing and maintaining relationships with brokers, agents and clients.• Providing technical underwriting advice to existing and prospective clients.• Ensuring underwriting operations comply with applicable regulatory requirements, KYC requirements and client service level agreements.• Addressing stakeholder and client complaints within agreed service levels.• Supervising, guiding and training underwriting staff on procedures, policy coverage and underwriting systems. Qualifications & Experience Applicants should possess: • A first degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, Economics or equivalent (ZAQA certified).• 3 to 6 years’ relevant experience in general insurance. Key Competencies The ideal candidate should demonstrate: • Ability to manage and develop staff.• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare accurate reports.• Good planning and organisational skills.• Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.• Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to achieve agreed targets.
